2D barcodes may scan incorrect docket numbers and other fields if Windows is set up on your computer with the keyboard layout "United States-International".

For example, docket numbers beginning with A will be scanned in with Ä as the first character.

Docket numbers and other text fields in the barcode string begin with a quotation mark ( " ), and when the next character is a vowel, it is converted to the same letter with a diaeresis (dots above it). For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306560

To fix this problem change your keyboard layout to "United States-Dvorak":

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Open Regional and Language Options.
  3. Select the Languages tab.
  4. Click the Details button.
  5. Click the Add button.
  6. In the Keyboard layout/IME box, select "United States-Dvorak".
  7. Click OK to save the changes.
